New Year’s Celebrations Drew Nearly 70,000 Visitors to Kansalaistori
The turn of the year was once again celebrated in Helsinki with star performers and dazzling pyrotechnic displays. The Children’s New Year event and the late-evening concert attracted around 68,000 visitors to Kansalaistori.
People gathered in Helsinki to celebrate the New Year in the traditional way, enjoying early-evening children’s programming followed by a top-tier concert later in the evening. Altogether, the Helsinki New Year’s celebration drew an estimated 68,000 revelers to Kansalaistori and its surrounding areas.
The festivities at Helsinki New Year’s kicked off in the early evening with a high-energy show by the whole family’s favorite band, Hevisaurus. During the late-evening concert, Ares, Erika Vikman, and KAJ took the stage, and Mayor Daniel Sazonov also addressed residents, wishing them a happy and hopeful New Year.
The celebrations at Kansalaistori took place in wintry cold temperatures, but in a positive atmosphere. “New Year’s is the most joyful moment in the Finnish festive calendar. Once again, the largest concert audience of the year welcomed the turn of the year with joy, while acting responsibly and with respect for one another,” says Stuba Nikula, CEO of the Helsinki Events Foundation.
The late-evening concert was broadcast live on Nelonen and Ruutu, and viewers can still relive the New Year’s atmosphere via Ruutu.
Helsinki’s New Year celebration is organized by the City of Helsinki. This traditional event has been held since the 1930s, and it is produced by the Helsinki Events Foundation.
